What a milestone… 25 family members flew in from all over, paying tribute to such a remarkable man… father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, friend and WWII hero. Stationed in New Guinea under famed Colonel Neel E. Kearby (and General MacArthur), Gramps flew a P-47 Thunderbolt on 124 missions and lived to tell about it…. if you’re out in Tucson be sure to visit the Pima Air & Space Museum and keep your eye out for Howie in the WWII hangar (he’s a docent). The birthday festivities included a picnic, slide show (on an old projector), 90 years of trivia, some of Gramp’s favorite music, a DVD-tribute of interviews called “The Life & Times of Howie Cosyns,” a delicious dinner at the Old Pueblo Grille, a multitude of special memories shared, and a song I was honored to write and perform for the grand occasion. Thanks to his beloved Polly for helping put it all together. They just happen to share the same birthday, which is also their wedding anniversary (how about that!). Gramps’ 90th was, without a doubt, one for the ages!

“He’s a father, he’s a husband, a volunteer and a veteran
While they all have a magnitude of hit songs to their credit, I was most excited to catch the one with the coolest name… Mr. Even Stevens. Having recorded one of his tunes on my Lovesick album (“Drivin’ My Life Away“), it was an absolute thrill to not only get to hear him perform it live, but also to meet such a legendary writer. Even told some great stories behind the songs and said he wrote nearly 600 with his good buddy (and one of my favorite singers), the late great Eddie Rabbitt, treating the crowd to a medley of hits like “I Love A Rainy Night” and “Step By Step”… just two of their many classic co-writes together. What a night it was, topped off with Even asking me for a copy of my own interpretation of his song, in my opinion, one of the greatest truckin’ songs ever written. Of course… I just happened to have a cd handy;)

Thanks again to everybody who came out for our Lovesick CD Release Party at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley! Michael and I were overwhelmed by all of the support from our friends, family and fans, and it was such a pleasure to share our new music with you. Special thanks to my mom, Debra, our “merch girl,” our friends who took photos and video, and the talented musicians we had the honor of playing with: David “Duke” Spicher on upright bass, Matt Raum on fiddle and mandolin, Mark Nemer on drums and Georgia Clay on electric guitar.

“If I could” make a livin’ out of thanking you, I would!

xoxo,

Becca
