I just returned to Nashville from a memorable weekend in Tucson, AZ celebrating my Grandpa, Howie Cosyns’, 90th Birthday! What a milestone… 25 family members flew in from all over, paying tribute to such a remarkable man… father, grandfather, great-grandfather, husband, friend and WWII hero. Stationed in New Guinea under famed Colonel Neel E. Kearby (and General MacArthur), Gramps flew a P-47 Thunderbolt on 124 missions and lived to tell about it…. if you’re out in Tucson be sure to visit the Pima Air & Space Museum and keep your eye out for Howie in the WWII hangar (he’s a docent). The birthday festivities included a picnic, slide show (on an old projector), 90 years of trivia, some of Gramp’s favorite music, a DVD-tribute of interviews called “The Life & Times of Howie Cosyns,” a delicious dinner at the Old Pueblo Grille, a multitude of special memories shared, and a song I was honored to write and perform for the grand occasion. Thanks to his beloved Polly for helping put it all together. They just happen to share the same birthday, which is also their wedding anniversary (how about that!). Gramps’ 90th was, without a doubt, one for the ages!
“He’s a father, he’s a husband, a volunteer and a veteran
He’s a hero, he’s our champ…. he’s my Gramp”

An old friend I hadn’t seen in nearly ten years was in town, and so I introduced his party of four to an old Nashville landmark, the world-famous Bluebird Cafe. What a night it was… “in the round” featuring Leslie Satcher, Scotty Emerick, John Scott Sherrill, Mike Loudermilk, and Even Stevens. While they all have a magnitude of hit songs to their credit, I was most excited to catch the one with the coolest name… Mr. Even Stevens. Having recorded one of his tunes on my Lovesick album (“Drivin’ My Life Away“), it was an absolute thrill to not only get to hear him perform it live, but also to meet such a legendary writer. Even told some great stories behind the songs and said he wrote nearly 600 with his good buddy (and one of my favorite singers), the late great Eddie Rabbitt, treating the crowd to a medley of hits like “I Love A Rainy Night” and “Step By Step”… just two of their many classic co-writes together. What a night it was, topped off with Even asking me for a copy of my own interpretation of his song, in my opinion, one of the greatest truckin’ songs ever written. Of course… I just happened to have a cd handy;)
That’s right, we’ll be hitting the road tomorrow, making a stop in St. Louis, and then heading to the Power & Light District in downtown Kansas City for a huge show with the hottest band on the country music scene… THE BAND PERRY!

We had an incredible time opening for Marshall Chapman at the Learned Place House Concert in Durham, NC. What a wonderful audience… thanks again to Jim for all the hospitality and Andrew for a great write-up on “The Down South Radio Hour.” And if you ever get the chance to see Marshall in concert, be sure to go check her out… she’s an amazing songwriter, storyteller & author, not to mention actor…. Country Strong! Here’s hoping our paths cross again.
New review just in… only problem is it’s in a different language! Ha! Head on over to altcountryforum.nl Lovesick Review if you want to check it out. Or for a good laugh, use a free language encoder and try to decipher it like we did! Nevertheless, thanks so much to altcountryforum for the review and we look forward to being able to read it soon. Always nice to know we have fans all around the world!

Thanks again to everybody who came out for our Lovesick CD Release Party at Nashville’s 3rd & Lindsley! Michael and I were overwhelmed by all of the support from our friends, family and fans, and it was such a pleasure to share our new music with you. Special thanks to my mom, Debra, our “merch girl,” our friends who took photos and video, and the talented musicians we had the honor of playing with: David “Duke” Spicher on upright bass, Matt Raum on fiddle and mandolin, Mark Nemer on drums and Georgia Clay on electric guitar.
“If I could” make a livin’ out of thanking you, I would!
xoxo,
Becca
